Description:


The ST Microelectronics VL53L0X is a flight time ranging system integrated in a compact module. The board is the carrier of the VL53L0X, so we recommend that you read the VL53L0X data sheet (1MB PDF) carefully before using this product.

VL53L0 using ST FlightSense technology of infrared laser precise measurement of emitted pulses at the small distance between the object and the detector is reflected back to the required time, so it can be regarded as a small, self-contained laser radar system. This time-of-flight (TOF) measurement allows it to precisely determine the absolute distance to the target, whereas the reflectivity of the object does not greatly affect measurement. The sensor can report up to 2 m (6.6 ft) distance resolution is 1 mm, but its effective range and accuracy (noise) is heavily dependent on the environmental conditions and target characteristics (such as reflectivity and size) and sensor configuration. (the accuracy of the sensor is specified to be excellent, from + 3% to range = + 10%).
The measurement range is provided by the I2C (TWI) interface of the sensor, which is also used to configure the sensor settings, and the sensor also provides two additional pins: turn off input and interrupt output.
VL53L0X is a great IC, but it's small, leadless, LGA package that makes it difficult for typical students or hobbyists to use. It also works at the recommended voltage of 2.8 V, which may make it difficult to interface at 3.3 V or 5 V microcontroller. From our board to solve these problems, making it easier to start using the sensor, while maintaining the overall size as small as possible.
PIN description
VDD regulated 2.8 V output. Almost 150 mA can be used to power external components. (to bypass the internal voltage regulator, you can use this pin as the 2.8 V input and disconnect the VIN).
 
VIN this is the main 2.6 V to 5.5 V power connection. The SCL and SDA level shifters raise the I2C line to this level.
 
GND power ground (0 V) connection. Your I2C control source must also share a common ground with the board.
 
SDA level conversion I2C data line: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0 V
 
SCL level shift I2C clock line: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0 V
 
XSHUT this pin is a low active shutdown input; by default, the board pulls it up to VDD to enable the sensor. The pin is driven low to allow the sensor to enter the hardware standby state. This input does not perform level conversion.
